And of course, don’t forget to have a read of Part One of our Instagrammers roundup if you haven’t already!

1. Al Ramsa Institute | @alramsauae

Learn new individual phrases in Emirati Arabic every day with the short and sweet videos from Al Ramsa UAE’s Instagram account. They’ve built up a huge catalogue of videos to work through and their featured phrases cover everything from ‘I’m stuck in traffic’ to ‘don’t make a big deal out of it’!

2. Subhi | @sbeih.mov

If you love @maisvault, you absolutely have to follow Subhi, who spins his life as a Palestinian-Filipino Texan into pure comedy gold. Predominantly in English, these videos are perfect for absolutely anyone interested in Middle Eastern culture, no matter your Arabic level.

3. Safana | @eaternallyfresh

For mouthwatering Middle Eastern recipes in both Arabic and English, follow @eaternallyfresh. Whether you compare the two languages to pick out the name of an ingredient or make the recipes disregarding the English entirely, we think this is the most delicious way to practice Arabic!

4. Roya News  | @royanews

Don’t overlook Instagram as a place to keep on top of local news in Arabic! If you’re studying Jordanian Ammiya or planning to study Arabic abroad in Amman, make sure to follow Roya News for the local news in Jordan in bite-sized portions. If you’re not keen on reading the news in Arabic but want to know what’s going on in Jordan, they also have an English language account at Roya News English!

If you’re learning another dialect, make sure to look for the main newspapers’ or news channels’ Instagram accounts for local news in your target region, like @alahram in Egypt or @moroccoworldnews if you’re heading to the Maghreb!

5. Mauj | @mauj.me

Follow @mauj.me for a crash course in sexual and reproductive wellness, put together by and written for Arab women. The posts are in a mixture of Arabic and English, so all levels of learners can benefit. Mauj discusses topics that are often considered taboo, in an open minded and factual way, covering everything from menstruation and contraception methods to sex and sexuality. This really is the place for the Arabic that you won’t be taught in class! We would put a trigger warning on some of their content as rape culture is discussed in some posts.

6. Natalia aka Ajnabiyeh | @ajnabiyeh

A European living in Jordan whose impeccable Jordanian Ammiya is rivalled only by her mansaf addiction. Follow for Ammiyeh as it’s spoken on the streets of Amman, amazing places to travel to in Jordan and hilarious collabs – she’s even been on Jordanian TV!

7. Max of Arabia | @maxofarabia

A British-American third culture kid who grew up in the Middle East and now lives in Dubai, Max’s perfect Khaleeji Arabic and breathtaking trips around the region are the proof you need that learning Arabic is incredibly worthwhile.
